Iconic BT Tower Set to Transform into Luxury Hotel in Landmark Deal

The BT Tower, an iconic structure in the heart of London’s West End, is soon to undergo a groundbreaking transformation: it will become a luxury hotel. The building, long a symbol of London’s skyline and owned by the BT Group, was today sold to the American group MCR Hotels for the sum of £275 million, equivalent to just over €320 million at the current exchange rate.

The announcement of the sale came on Wednesday from British Telecom, which accepted MCR Hotels‘ purchase offer for the aforementioned amount. The telecommunications group emphasized that the tower, once converted into a hotel, will retain its status as an iconic landmark for the future.

Standing at a total height of 189 meters, the BT Tower was long the tallest building in London, holding this title until 1980. In addition to housing telecommunications equipment, the structure boasted a revolving restaurant on the top floor, once a destination for captivating dining experiences, until an attack in 1971 interrupted its operation, fortunately without causing casualties.

Tyler Morse, CEO of MCR Hotels, expressed pride in acquiring and preserving the iconic BT Tower, adding that the transformation works into a hotel will take several years, given the scale and complexity of the technical activities to be carried out.

MCR Hotels, known for its portfolio of approximately 150 hotels, including the renowned TWA Hotel at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, is thus poised to add another jewel to its collection, transforming an iconic urban structure into a luxurious and modern landmark for guests in London and beyond.
