Mexico, as we know, is a land of beautiful contrasts, where the past and present harmoniously merge, and amid the bustling streets of cities and rural villages, there is an atmosphere of authenticity and warmth. And it is right here that Champurrado is born, a beverage that carries with it the rich history and tradition of this fascinating nation.

Today, we delve into the magical world of Champurrado, a delicious Mexican beverage that has captured the hearts of many with its inviting aroma and enveloping flavor. Calm, No… it’s not our classic hot chocolate (although it can be likened to our beloved hot chocolate) but Champurrado carries with it a millennia-old history and a unique recipe that reflects the vibrant soul of Mexico.

Rich in history and deeply rooted in Mexican culture, Champurrado is a true embrace for the palate and the soul. Today, I’ll share with you its authentic recipe, perfect for cold days or as a sweet snack for your children or even just for a cozy treat for yourself…

And now (without further ado) I present to you the original recipe of Champurrado ⬇️

👩🏻‍🍳 Ingredients for 4 cups of Champurrado

  • 4 cups whole milk
    1 cup water
1 cup corn flour (masa harina)
    1 cup brown sugar
    3 cinnamon sticks
2 Mexican chocolate tablets (chocolate de tabla)
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    A pinch of salt

👩🏻‍🍳 Procedure

➡️ In a large pot, combine the milk and water and bring to a boil over medium heat

➡️ Gradually add the corn flour, stirring constantly to avoid lumps

➡️ Add the sugar, cinnamon sticks, chopped chocolate, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir well to dissolve all the ingredients

➡️ Continue to cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the Champurrado begins to thicken and reaches the desired consistency (about 15-20 minutes)

➡️ Remove the cinnamon sticks and serve the Champurrado hot, optionally garnishing with a sprinkle of cinnamon powder ☕️

What do you say? Were we right that Champurrado is much more than just a hot beverage… or not? Without a doubt, it’s a true culinary experience that will transport you directly to the colorful streets of Mexico. This simple and quick recipe is perfect for indulging during cold winter days or for sharing a special moment with family. Now all that’s left is to let yourself be enveloped by the warm embrace of Mexico ❤️
