Living a “Green” life, how is it done?

In recent years, perhaps due to the increasing attention towards climate change and environmental disasters caused by pollution, the idea that everyone should live a more “Green” life is becoming more widespread.

But what does it really mean? Adopting a sustainable or “green” lifestyle means making choices that promote health and well-being, an achievable goal in daily life. Often, our daily actions at home, at work, in transportation choices, and even during meals have a negative impact on the environment, many times without us realizing it. Seemingly insignificant actions performed habitually can compromise not only the sustainability of our home or work environment but also our entire lifestyle, influencing even the lives of those around us.

If you also want to reduce your ecological footprint and adopt a sustainable lifestyle but don’t know where to start, here are some valuable tips for consuming less and using energy more efficiently. Ultimately, to live sustainably, it’s essential to adopt a sustainability-oriented mindset, and since a sustainable lifestyle encompasses every aspect of the day, here are some suggestions to become as eco-friendly as possible. Know from the outset that it’s simpler than you might think! In fact, living sustainably isn’t so complex with the right guidelines to help you adopt a new approach to reduced consumption, avoid waste, and decrease the overall environmental impact of your lifestyle.

If you think about it, for years our planet has been urgently urging us to reduce waste and consume more responsibly, considering overpopulation and the limitedness of resources, so now responding to this request becomes crucial, and adopting a conscious lifestyle means making thoughtful choices.

  • Let’s learn to save water Let’s start with water, our most precious resource, which risks becoming scarce in the near future due to climate change. It’s essential to learn how to save it, as it won’t always be sufficient for everyone: turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and opting for a quick shower instead of a bath are just some of the recommended practices. Or, using the dishwasher instead of hand washing dishes allows for significant water savings, as does limiting watering and preferring drip systems to control consumption, contributing to a low environmental impact life.

  • Let’s choose the right foods In the context of eco-sustainability, attention to food plays a crucial role as many food products we buy in supermarkets come from regions of the world far from us, for this reason, they undergo treatments to guarantee optimal preservation. However, the production chain often isn’t entirely traceable, limiting our awareness of all the steps the product takes before reaching our tables. The preference for seasonal foods and awareness of the origin of products not only positively contribute to the environment, reducing the need for long-distance transportation but also have direct benefits on our health.

  • No wasting food allowed! Statistics reveal that about a third of all food produced globally ends up in the trash. The main cause of this waste lies, of course, with consumers who often buy quantities of food greater than those actually consumed. A practical tip is to carefully measure the quantities purchased to reduce waste, perhaps by preparing tables with weekly menus so as to actually buy only the food that we are sure to consume in that specific period of time. The main commitment always remains to live without waste and thus reduce waste. This is why sustainable purchases are crucial for a low environmental impact lifestyle.

  • Let’s not throw away but recycle Regarding objects, adopting recycling and reuse practices isn’t just a trend but a fundamental element of contemporary lifestyle. Creative recycling, in particular, offers timeless charm, urging us to give a second life to unused objects. For example, a jar can be transformed into a lantern or a soap dispenser, just as a plastic bottle can become a desk vase. In the era of Instagram and TikTok, it’s impossible not to find an idea on how to recycle an object that seemingly is no longer needed! The environment will benefit, but so will our wallet 😉

These small steps are just a way to adopt a generative mindset, namely pushing beyond the boundaries of our own ego, maintaining a focus on the good of others and a potentially better future. This mentality therefore represents a sort of handing over the torch to future generations, recognizing our responsibility in creating a more positive tomorrow and thus a better future for us and for those who come after us.
